Rhodes' Garden Fresh was founded in 1990 at the old "Walts Market" location. 
The Rhodes family has a background in wholesale produce, so retail was the logical next step.
Jeff and Barb Rhodes opened with great contacts in the produce business, but we soon discovered we lacked experience in retail. Through a process of trial and error, we learned retail!
At the time we opened, we didn't know a petunia from a peony. Over time, and with the help of local suppliers, we became familiar with more and more plants. The longer we were in it, the more interested we became. With that interest, we grew into what many call "the best garden center in the area".
We constantly research new plant varieties, trying them in our own garden. Our suppliers all over the country know our hunger for the new and unusual. They keep us informed about what is on the horizon and supplies as soon as available.
Meet the Family
Barb Rhodes is the backbone of our operation - she oversees all the retail in the market and handles all the local suppliers of annual flowers. She is our human resources manager, bookkeeper, scheduler, truck unloader and plant waterer.
Jeff Rhodes oversees the health and maintenance of our plants - our "plant doctor and nutritionist". He researches and buys all of the perennials and shrubs. He makes sure we have produce to sell in
the market by maintaining contact with local farmers and wholesale suppliers.
Shannon is our manager and gives Barb and Jeff relief from the daily task of running the store. She is also our buyer of pottery, gifts and garden accents. Often she attends our satellite farmers market locations.
Matt is our all-around handy guy. He drives our trucks, fixes our trucks and handles many of our maintenance issues as well as doing some of our buying in Detroit.
We all work hard to ensure when you buy from us, you get the freshest and highest quality produce, plants, accents, pottery and gifts. As our customer, you deserve the best!
